It was a happy ending for Finnish hockey fans from Helsinki to Hameenlinna. Finland beat a gutsy Swiss team 3-1 to win the bronze medal game at the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship.

Lara Stalder considers it an honour to wear the "C" for her country, but also appreciates the other leaders on the team who have helped Switzerland get to where they are today.

Canada did exactly what it had to do tonight against Switzerland and skated to a dominating 4-0 win to advance to the Women's Worlds gold-medal game against the United States tomorrow night for the first time since 2017.

Laura Zimmermann scored at 5:29 of overtime to give Switzerland a 3-2 win in the first game of the quarter-finals.

Talk about getting hot at the right time. Petra Nieminen scored a natural hat trick and added an assist in the first period as the Finns hammered Switzerland 6-0 to finish third in Group A and set up a quarter-final clash with the Czechs.

After another slow start, Canada scored four unanswered goals in the second period and defeated the Swiss by a 5-0 score to remain perfect atop the Group A standings.

Talk about classic Russian quick-strike hockey. The ROC team scored twice in 14 seconds on Switzerland in the second period, coming back from a 1-0 deficit and triumphing 3-1 in their Saturday opener in Calgary.

 

With a dazzling 55-save performance, Swiss goalie Andrea Brandli made sure it wasn't a cakewalk for the U.S. on Day One. The defending champions had to work hard for their 3-0 victory over Switzerland in the third game at Calgary’s WinSport Arena.
