The 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship Disciplinary Panel held a hearing and reviewed the five-minute major and game misconduct assessed to Canada’s Daryl Watts at 1:08 of the third period in the semi-final versus Finland.
The incident involved a violation of IIHF Official Playing Rule 48 (Illegal Check to the Head or Neck) / Rule 101.1 (Illegal Hit in Women’s Hockey).
The Panel determined that the play did not rise to the level of further supplemental discipline. It found that the penalty on the ice was warranted but considered sufficient.
Daryl Watts is eligible to play in the gold medal game between the U.S. and Canada on 20 April.
Due to a potential perceived conflict of interest, the 2025 IIHF WW Disciplinary Chair Tuula Puputti recused herself from the process and the 2025 IIHF WM Disciplinary Chair Mike Hicks led proceedings.
The IIHF makes this announcement in the best interests of player safety for not only the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship, but other future IIHF competitions.
